What is Kidney ?
Kidney is an organ the helps to clean our body by maintaining the salt and mineral level, excreting the waste products out of the body. Kidney has small structures call nephrons and these nephrons are responsible for the cleaning action of the kidneys. Kidney produces renin that helps in maintaining blood pressure.
About Kidney Failure
Kidney failure is a medical condition in which the nephrons present in kidney are not able to function properly as a result of which the amount of urea and creatinine increases in the blood. Kidney failure is a chronic condition in which the kidney does not clear out the toxic substances of the body and the patient is put on dialysis. Dialysis is an artificial medium used to excrete the waste substances out of the body. Duration of dialysis depends on the condition of the kidneys. Herbal supplements helps the kidneys to function again in a proper manner.
Reasons of Kidney Failure
Diabetes : Diabetes is one of the major causes for the loss of kidney function. Diabetes often termed as “slow killer” reduces the functioning of the nephrons gradually and results in kidney failure. Herbal supplements reduces the risk of kidneys getting affected due to diabetes.
High Blood Pressure : High BP is one of the other major reasons for kidney failure. High BP Effects the functioning of the kidney, reduces its effectiveness to filter the waste products from the body and the patient gradually catches up with Renal failure. Herbal supplements can protect the kidneys from getting damaged by the effect of High BP.
AIDS : Aids weakens the immune system of the body and makes the person so weak that he is easily attacked by such diseases.
Infections : Infections in the kidney result in loss of glomeruli functioning which ultimately results on kidney failure.
Inflammation : Inflammation in the urinary tract or the kidney (in the nephrons) may result in chronic kidney disease.
Congenital Defects : These are present by birth and may be responsible for the failure of kidney function.
Blockage : Kidney stone can be the reason of blockage the result in loss of renal function.
Medicines : Prolong use of certain medicines like NSAIDS are responsible for kidney failure.
Symptoms of kidney failure are
Fatigue : The patient has shortness of breath. He develops pain in extremeties very easily as compared to other people of same age group.
Increased relaxation time : The patient become lethargic, has no stamina to work hard, the time period required for relaxation increases after doing any activity in the beginning and later on with the development of didesae the patient is not able to do most of the activities.
Oedema : The patient develops swelling in the extremeties e.g. hands and lower legs as a result of accumulation of toxins in the blood.
Nausea and Vomiting : The patient feels headache associated with nausea and sometimes shows symptoms of vomiting as result of failure of kidney function.
Dizziness : The patient feels dizziness due to improper kidney functioning. Accumulation of toxins in the blood are the reason for showing dizziness.
Reduced Appetite : The patient develops loss of appetite as a result of accumulation of toxins in the body. The patient has no will to eat. The appetite keeps on reducing with the development of the disease.
Inactive : The patient becomes dependent on others for all his daily activities. The patient is not able to even walk properly. He needs support of other people to complete his activities.
Walking Aid : Patient needs walking aids e.g. walker to move from one place to another as the patient’s lower limb is unable to take the load of the body and walk properly.
Tremors : The hands of the patient are not able to pick and hold the things properly. Sometimes the object in the hand fall down. The hands often shake while doing activities.
Immunity reduces : The patient catches other diseases very easily as the immunity of the body reduces. The patient feels feverish very often as a result of reduction in the immunity.
Skin rashes : the patient develops itching during this chronic disease. As a result of itching the patient develops rashes on the skin.
Loss of concentration power : The patient is suffering though the dreaded disease of kidney failure, due to which he develops loss of concentration power.
Now the most Important Symptoms
Change in urination : Change in consistency and colour of urine is one of the major symptoms. The changes occur due to less effective functioning of the nephrons.
Pain while urination : The loss of kidney function results in pain during the process of urination. The apin is unusual to occur and should be considered serious symptom.
Blood while urination : The patient may show blood in the urine. This is a major symptom and must not be neglected.
Diagnostic tests are performed to check the function of the kidney
Urine Test : Urine test checks for albumin in urine. Albumin is a protein that can pass into the urine when the kidneys are damaged or not function properly. Higher albumin ratio shows damaged kidneys.
Blood test : Blood test checks GFR (glomular filteration rate) which shows the filteration rate of kidneys.GFR decreases with age. The GFR count should be above 60 which shows normal value. Less GFR shows damaged kidneys.
Blood Pressure : Normal value of blood pressure is recommended for healthy kidneys. If the blood pressure rises above 140/90 then shows unhealthy kidneys.
